RESPONDING
How to Respond to Negative Reviews as a Restaurant Owner
Your reply is written for the next hundred people who read the review, not just the person who left it.
Keep it short and specific
Thank them, acknowledge the specific issue, and say what you have done or will do. Three or four sentences is plenty.
Never argue in public
Even when a review is wrong, a defensive reply makes the business look worse than the review does. State facts calmly if you need to correct something.
Take it offline
Offer a direct way to reach a manager. It shows you care and moves the conversation somewhere private.
A simple template
Thank you for the feedback. I’m sorry the wait for your table was longer than it should have been. We’ve changed how we handle Friday bookings, and I’d love the chance to make it right. Please reach me at [email]. — [Name], General Manager.
When not to reply
If a review is clearly fake or abusive, report it first. A reply can still help, but keep it neutral and avoid repeating the accusation.
